In-concert and Live footage
Live footage
This is what is used in music videos where the video starts with the band having a conversations and not performing until a certain part of the music video. This is used to get a look at the band outside of performing to their fans. It is a way to show what they are like as people and what they do in their spare time and when not performing. This is a good way to show live footage as it can make fans more connected as they could be doing what they do and can relate to that.
In-concert
This means that there is footage from a camera or a phone device showing a band performing in concerts to show how the band are like when performing live in front of people. This is a good way to show people what it is like in concerts with the atmosphere it creates with the music the band is performing is what can get people into concerts and into the band which then creates synergy. Also, people would want to buy tickets and this is all from seeing footage from bands performing in-concert.
Multi-image
Multi-image can be different as you can get split screen with multi image or images that overlap one another. There can also be a smaller image that is featured on top of the main image. This is used in music videos which can help with the genre and the lyrics. This can be considered another way of parallel editing which is where it shows you two scenes that are happening at the same time. So there could be a music video using parallel editing as well as multi image to help with the narrative of the song.
Cutting to beat
This is a type of technique that is used in standard rock or pop videos. Cutting to beat cuts will cut to a four by four beat. Depending on the pace of the song it will effect the amount of images that you change through out. There are some songs such as drum and pass which will cut to the beat instantly and to images as drum and bass beats work at a fast pace. The director of the music video will use rhythm and pace to help cut the visuals of the song.
Links to Other Artists
Links to artists is as It says is thaqt in a music video there is mention of an other artist which is a link to them. There are two ways that it can be done when linking an other artists within a music video. The first one is where it pays homage to the artist with respect to artist by having lyrics done in a respectful way to celebrate the artist. The second way of linking another artist can be done as a parody for the purpose of mocking the other artist.
Allusion
This in music video context is where the artist or the some part of the music video is calling something to mind but does not mention or say exactly what it is but the audience can tell what the Allusion is about. This can work with music videos as artists can use allusion to help explain about them as a person through the music video.
Extending or concolidating songs meaning
This can again refer to Goodwin's theory amplification as this is extending the meaning of the music video as it could be that the story needs to be extended in order for it to give its proper meaning. Also the meanings and effects are repeatable shown within the music video. This is intended for the audience to realize the meaning of the song with the it being constantly repeated that it is drummed into our vision.
This is smile like you mean it which is done by the band called The Killers which tells the story of a person who looks back at his past life before he died and it repeatedly shows him going through room to room and where his life took place as he is a ghost walking around the house into the same places but seeing different events of his life. From this it shows the audience the meaning of the music video.

Illustrative
This can refer to Andrew Goodwin's theory about music that can use images to Illustrate the meaning of the song,Genre or lyrics. Illustrative means the story so with action films it is fast paced and set in extraordinary locations where the action takes place and has a conflicts between a hero and villains. This can apply to music too as an action story can be told through a music video with the lyrics to help narrate the story. As with Andrew Goodwin's theory the genre can be a key part to Illustrate the meaning of the music video as it can go well and be well suited with the genre.
Referencing
Referencing in the context of music video is where it has a interrelationship between music, video and film. So within music videos there can be referenced that are from other films such as a costume or symbol that can be recognized. Iconography is a type of referencing that you can physically see such as an object that would be reference in the music video. Inter textual reference is where there are a lot of types of referencing and this has been done for several music videos as it has many types of referencing in certain music videos. Referencing in music video can be done for many purposes such as sending a message through music videos and referencing can help to back that up.
This is an example of a music video, which is called arguing with thermometers by a band called enter shikari referencing the news with one of the members dressed up as a news reporter sitting down on a desk as well as another band member being a weather forecaster which is referencing the system of the news channels.
Parody
Parody is where there is an imitation of someones original work and is used to deliberately exaggerate their work to mock it. This can be entertain as it uses comedy within parody. This can be used with certain music videos to mock the artist or the performance of the song also with the design of clothing which can be a part of parody. With copyright issues this is not considered with parody as you will not need permission to record any form of parody. But to maintain a good relationship it would be a personal rule to ask for permission to record a parody on the song.
Pastiche
This is where there is a music video that is similar to another with the way the music video is portrayed or other aspects such as the camera works, lighting or mise-en-scene and the editing techniques. This is not done to mock the original music video but is done out of respect and it can be inspiring to to other artists to do similar work with their music videos. It also pays homage to the styles that the director has done. This is what makes this different from parody as it is used to show how good these styles and performance is done to make the music video good in its on way.
Surrealist
Surrealist is considered out of the ordinary and can be compared to dreams as they are not logical which is the same for surrealism. It can also be considered unique as well as weird with its visuals and settings in a music video. There is no actual narrative as it does not really need to be logical. Surrealist music video can give different meanings to the audience as it can not always be clear what the msuic video is about as it is surreal.
This video is a surrealist music video and it is caleed come to daddy by Aphex twins and this is surreal with its illogical moments and parts that do not make sense. This can be also considered unique as this is a music video that has not been in this way before.
Impressionism
Impressionism is where that the use of color and setting in music videos is what conveys the mood and emotion of the music video to help give the audience an impression of it. Impressionism was originally used in art with paintings which where created to convey emotions and create an atmosphere from it. Western classical music during the late 19th and 20th century had adopted Impressionism to create an atmosphere and emotions that goes with the music. Impressionism is used in music videos to give the audience an impression towards it with its setting and music lyrics playing to create the an emotion and atmosphere to the audience.
This is an example of an Impressionism. This screenshot is from a music video called Kings and Queens by 30 seconds to mars. This shows impressionism by the use of high key lighting in the video with the sun and the street lights in the city later in the music video which conveys joys and happiness that the characters feel by being together and wherever they go they bring a happy and joyful atmosphere to the area.
